A glimpse into the world of a Brit living in Beira, Mozambique

The day I met “this oke”……..

A few weeks ago was one of those days where I came home thinking “this is why I love Africa.” It was an experience that took me by surprise and opened my eyes to the other side of Beira, the side you don’t often see. This world was not the expat, world where everything works… Read More The day I met “this oke”……..

When you know you have lived in Africa for too long!

So I thought I would share this little snippet with you while I lie here currently feeling very sorry for myself under a mountain of tissues. Yep, the obligatory cold, or as it is classified here ‘ The Flu,’ has followed me back to Beira from my recent visit back to Blighty; a wonderful leaving… Read More When you know you have lived in Africa for too long!

Happy Friday all! Hope you have had a fab week and have an equally awesome weekend! 🍻 . . #sundowners #sunset #friday #drinks #beach #sea #stunning #mozambique #beira #africa #cheers #happiness #clouds #beautiful #happyplace #blogger
So today was a first for me....my first chapela (tuk-tuk) ride. I know, I know I've been here for five years now, but I have always had a bit of a fear of them. They aren't the sturdiest of vehicles, and even though I am generally up for trying most things here in Africa, I've had a bit of a mental block on these.... but today I threw caution to the wind and loved it!! It was so easy to dodge around the traffic and park when your running in and out of shops. It was also great to watch the Beira world go by on a lower and closer level. Something I will definitely do again!! What do they say "do something out your comfort zone every day", job done today and to be honest I feel a bit silly for not doing it before!!! 🙄 . . Check my stories for my little tour around! . . #beira #tuktuk #chapela #city #mozambique #africa #expat #comfortzone #livelife #explore #adventure #britinbeira #shopping #traffic #blogger #travel #blue #colour #bright #market
On the theme of all things plastic #throwbackthursday to this guy, I saw with his sack full of plastic bottles! **New blog post** Link in bio, on the plastic problem! Let me know what you think! ♻🤓 ・・・ Not much gets wasted here and everything that is anything can be carried on the back of a bike! 🚴🏿‍♂️ . This guy, with incredible balance, is loaded up with plastic drinks bottles. Here the water is not safe to drink most of the time; therefore, unfortunately, we do rely on bottled water 💧. This obviously creates a huge waste issue, but as you can see these bottles are often recycled 🔃and used for lots of different things. . We have now changed to buying 18L bottles that fit into a water dispenser which are returned and refilled, therefore reducing the amount of plastic bottles we generate as a household #everylittlebithelps🌍 . . #recycle #plastic #waste #green #environment #bike #strength #roads #africa #saveouroceans #mozambique #beira #expat #britinbeira #water #plasticbottles #travel #loveafrica #expatlife #inspiring #dedication

The stunningly huge moon tonight! Husband and boys spent ages spotting the huge fruit bats flying around; they looked beautiful against the moonlight! Unfortunately, I don't have a fancy camera so I couldn't grab them flying past the moonlight. It was very Gothic looking! . #moonlight #night #bats #beauitful #africa #mozambique #beira #nightsky #moon #expat #britinbeira #night
Colour! I LOVE it 🎨, and Mozambique is full of it. From the bright coloured Capulana material to the vibrant hand-painted signs and bars, to the super fresh fruit sold on the side of the road. . . 🌈 Rainbow food is something I live for and today was super delicious! Local mangos, avos, and tomatoes making this loaded salad to die for!! . . #colour #bright #fruit #rainbow #food #passion #foodporn #instafood #homecooked #avo #mango #africa #mozambique #beira #fresh #britinbeira #expat #travel #eatlocal
